Shine Your Light

This month I decided to post a throwback piece.  Throwback in the sense that I was never able to publish this December devotional.  Since I firmly believe the joys of Christmas can be shared and considered all year long, this piece will be a bit reflective, as you consider the days of 2016.  Yet I hope this article encourages your heart this month.  Have a lovely weekend!

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  Isaiah 9:6

December is such a special time of the year.  Christmas time is a holiday that is meant to be shared and celebrated with family and friends.  Yet is it also a time to recall all the blessings in life. It is so easy to let life’s busy schedule dictate our time and how we spend our days.  Before we know it, months have passed by, and we never took the time to thank God for all He has done.

Each year goes by so quickly, which is why it is imperative to cherish each moment in front of us.  Life is filled with joys, challenges, happiness, and hurt.  But each event can teach us more about ourselves and the mercy of our God.  Take a moment today to remember your growth this year.  How were you challenged over the last few months?  In what ways did the Lord ask you to take a leap of faith?  Were you able to follow His calling?

Every day is an opportunity to make a difference in the life of someone else.  During the holidays, there are so many individuals who need the kindness of others.  Whether that comes from a smile or from a friendly chat while standing in line at the store, each bit of sunshine can make such a great impact in another person’s day.  And you never know what troubles a person may be battling in their life that week.

I challenge you to change some of your priorities in the coming year.  Make 2017 a year where you take that special time to consider all the Lord’s goodness and remember to thank Him for His continuous grace.  It is wonderful to reflect on memories and mercy at Christmas, but make sure to keep that grateful spirit all year long.  Continue to shine in a world that needs light so desperately.  Share the joy of the season with those around you throughout the next year too, because that same joy was beautifully given to us in the form of a baby on Christmas morn.  And it is such an honor to know that the Lord bestows such love on His children–this same love can be received by anyone.

So in the midst of shopping, working, and worrying about what to bring to Christmas dinner or the New Year’s party, concentrate on those individuals in front of you.  Make each second count, because these precious minutes pass too quickly, and then they are gone forever.  Let’s focus on taking this next year to make sure our loved ones know how much we love and appreciate them.  Don’t let another day end without cherishing each adventure that comes your way.
